Where’s the Dirt?

You may have read that the dirtiest place in hotel rooms are the remote controls. Well the same holds true for your home. There are a lot of places that dirt, mold, mildew and other germs hide. So where does most of that stuff hide?

Remote controls – Clean these with a little soap and water using a damp cloth or a lysol wipe on a regular basis, especially if someone in your home has recently been sick

Sponges – this includes dish sponges and sponges in your bathroom. These should be rinsed well after each use, you can put them in the dishwasher to clean up, but they should never sit with contamination on them, it’s a breeding ground for bacteria and germs.

Cutting boards – yup those pesky little germs get all over them. Clean with hot soapy water after each use and disinfect. If you have a wooden cutting board, you can also protect it with a food safe protector, you will still need to wash after each use

Coffee Maker – if you’re like me you enjoy your cup of “joe” everyday, however, there are minerals and other stuff in water that get trapped inside of your coffee maker. Coffee makers should be cleaned on a weekly basis using vinegar and water, run it through your coffee maker and then run regular water through once to remove any scale build up

Refrigerator – when is the last time you took a good look at the inside of your refrigerator, left overs, old food or veggies in the drawer can start to breakdown fast, keep an eye on the food and clean up after anything that has started to degrade. Mold is contagious and will start to spread to other foods fast.

Carpet – Did you know that one square foot of carpeting can hold more than 1 pound of dirt, what!!! Here is a video that you can watch showing how carpet can hold one pound of dirt Video.
